Hussein Balhas.  Lebanese boy born with Fraser Syndrome, a very rare genetic disorder, characterized by partial webbing of the fingers and toes, kidney abnormalities, genital malformations, hearing defects, and complete or partial fusing of the eyelids.  45% die before their first birthday.  Hussein was brought to the United States for corrective surgical procedures by the ALO Cultural Foundation.  Hussein is now back in school in Lebanon.
Erin Runnion.  Erin's 5-year-old daughter Samantha, was kidnapped, sexually assaulted and murdered in July, 2002, while playing with a friend outside her home in Orange County, California.  In her memory, Erin founded The Joyful Child Foundation, and co-founded The Surviving Parents Coalition.  Samantha's murderer now awaits execution on Death Row.
